And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. (1 Peter 5:10).
I have held on to these words as if they were the last words I had. The wrinkled little note with my scribbling sat on my nightstand and comforted me through countless nights of weariness as we tried to bring comfort to our son through long hours of screaming, choking, and shaking.
It was horrible, and after a year with really no relief I began to believe there was to be no relief for him, for us. Ever. At least on this side of death. I grieved for his life and pain and grieved for our life. But the thought of an eternity with this God of all grace who would himself restore (from the brokenness now so keenly laid open within us), confirm (yes, I was there, I am faithful, I AM), strengthen (lay your weary head here, in My everlasting arms), and establish you (being rooted in Christ) would stir up hope and peace in the darkest of moments.
I don't know of any other who would so tenderly care for weary, broken, and wounded ones. There is no comforter more suited than God. Whom better than the Father of the One who was intimately acquainted with weariness, brokenness and the wounded? Whom better than Jesus who suffers with us in all our weakness?
Are you weary, broken, and wounded this Christmas? Go to God; your Creator, your Redeemer, your only Comforter. Repent before Him, put your faith in Him, and rejoice in the comfort and life found only in Him.

Thanks Kara. You have put this so beautifully. I have shared the link to it with a mutual friend who is having a really hard time at the moment, and I pray that she can find the comfort you have found. Miss you heaps. Hope you are settled in your new home, and have been able to enjoy the Christmas season. Happy Christmas to all the Diedert family - Darryl, Kara, Sophie, Noah, Evie and Calvin! And may 2011 bring God's richest blessings to your family.
