Leaning on Him

It has been a whirlwind of emotion and activity the past week and a half. After arriving in Bangkok I went for a routine check-up at 38 weeks. At that time the doctor found our baby's head was measuring far smaller than the rest of the body and sent me to a specialist. The doctor who examined the baby's head found too much fluid located in the front part of the brain on the right side. The implications were overwhelming. The doctors have given us reasonable hope that the baby may still be born healthy, but there is also a very real possibility that the baby has had some sort of brain damage. Something pathological may have interfered with the development (at 20 weeks the baby was completely normal). At this point there is nothing more the doctors can do until the baby is born, at which time the baby will undergo testing.

It continues to be an exhausting cycle of emotion as we try to prepare ourselves for the many unknowns and possibilities. But in the midst of our fears and thoughts we continue to feel as a family that the Lord is with us and He will be our strength and sustainer, no matter what the outcome is. We know He has given us this child and so we will trust in Him who makes no mistakes. We already love this baby and cannot wait to hold this little gift from God in our arms.

Thank you to so many of you who are lifting us up in prayer and truly sharing this burden with us. We are weak, our faith is small and our fears large but HE gives us strength in our weakness and His grace is sufficient. Our comfort is that God will carry us through whatever it is He has called us to with this child.

Love to you all,
