Come Along for the Ride!

We are in Bangkok for the arrival of our fourth child. Cambodia still lacks adequate medical care so we need to head to Thailand for the birth. This time around I could not fly due to new airline regulations regarding pregnant women, so we made the 12 hour trip overland.

I have been in the city for so long, it was refreshing to see the gorgeous countryside as we traveled through Cambodia to the border. There was literally nothing but a few houses/shacks along the way, so I was a little relieved that neither of us went in to labor on the way. We (the friend I was riding with) were both nearly 38 weeks pregnant. I did look up some rustic/emergency birth procedures beforehand...just in case!





We arrived at the home of our missionary friends in Koh Kong just before dinner. They took us to a lovely little place right on the ocean where we dined on fresh red snapper. Yum! Little fishing boats chugged about near the rugged docks as the sun slowly sunk into the horizon.

Noah dunked under the cold weather before sleeping through the hot(!) night. Just Noah came on the car ride, the girls came with Darryl later on the plane.


In the morning we went for noodles at the local shop. We must have looked quite a sight, three pregnant Western women! The missionary friend living in Koh Kong is also pregnant. The sun was blazing hot even in the early morning as we waited at the border. The ocean was quietly lapping on the shores, women pushed fruit carts about, and the Cambodians had fun watching our two toddlers gallivant about. We crossed the Thai border (on foot, suitcases and all!) and rented a taxi to take the rest of journey to Bangkok.

We arrived just before dinner in Bangkok. This is the family that traveled with me, their baby is due just two days before ours! I was so glad I could make the trip with somebody instead of by myself.


We parted ways as they headed to Chaing Mai, a city in the northern part of Thailand and I stayed in Bangkok.

Noah got along famously with their sweet little girl. So long, little friend!
