Our Sustainer

In church we sang Psalm 30; I can just imagine David overwhelmed with the Lord's goodness to him after hard times. I love how Psalm 30 shows the Lord's hand sustaining David. All David had to do was cry to the Lord and God responded by lifting, healing, bringing up, and keeping him alive.

David knew he was weak, sinful, helpless and that made God's love all the more staggering. Sometimes He gives us a glimpse (I think if He showed us more it would consume us!) of His greatness and His willingness to be involved with the likes of us and it's overwhelming.

On the way home from church Darryl was commenting how sometimes it seems like the nearness of God is too much for our little puny minds and bodies. And isn't that right? God's immensity, fullness, and holiness is too big for us. He gives us little tastes here on earth, refreshing us along the way, reminding us of an eternity with Him.

Psalm 30:1-5

I will extol thee, O LORD, for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.

O LORD my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.

O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness.

His anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Amen! I love that phrase, "in his favour is life." Just beautiful.

I'm jealous of your close feeling with God. I know I need to immerse myself in His word. Thanks for this post.
